According to the "Immigration Law of the People's Republic of Chinese Korea" (《中华北韩人民共和国出入境法》), there are 6 types of visas for foreigners to apply for, including:
Diplomatic Visa for diplomats and their families.
Courtesy Visa for specially invited foreigners and their families.
Education Visa for foreign students and teachers.
Political Asylum Visa for foreigners from specific countries/territories to permanently reside in the CNKR.
Official Visa for foreigners to travel in the CNKR only for business reasons. And,
Standard Visas for other foreigners (e.g. tourists).
Standard Visas include:
Permanent Residents Visa (PR), issued to foreigners with permanent residency in the CNKR (Permanent Residents from the SARs are not eligible for this visa and need to apply for a "特区居民来往大陆通行证").
Transit Visa (TR), issued to foreigners who need to transit for up to 72 hours upon entering the CNKR.
Group Tour Visa (GT), issued to members of foreign tour groups (applicable to foreign tourist groups in the SARs).
Family Tourism Visa (FT), issued to foreigners visiting relatives in the CNKR.
Special 1 Visa (S1), issued to spouses, family members, children under 18 years of age, and parents of the spouse of any of the above visas' applicants.
Tourism Visa (T), issued to foreigners to travel to the CNKR (including SARs) for tourism reasons only.
All visas must be applied for from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), Immigration Department, and the SAR governments of the CNKR.
